Our Story

Named after a surf break on the wild southern edge of the Mornington Peninsula, the label was founded in 2015 by Lucas Blanck & Tom McCarthy as a creative outlet alongside their work at a pioneering organic estate.

The spark came with the discovery of the secluded Hickson Vineyard in Balnarring—an old-vine site full of untapped potential. After careful regeneration, the vineyard produced Chardonnay of striking natural expression, intensity and structure. The first Hickson Chardonnay was bottled in 2015, made with a gentle, intuitive approach—allowing the vineyard to speak of its place.

At the heart of Kerri Greens is organic viticulture. Lucas, an Alsace-born viticulturist, is most at home in the vineyard, where healthy soils & balanced vines produce fruit of vibrancy & natural acidity. This freedom in the vineyard allows for restraint in the winery, letting the grapes do most of the work.

The wines reflect what the team loves to drink: effortless texture, purity & personality. With thoughtful farming & a hands off approach to winemaking, the range expresses the Mornington Peninsula through an Alsatian lens.

In 2023, Lucas and his wife Alyce took full ownership of Kerri Greens, beginning a new chapter for the label while continuing to creating wines that are honest, unforced & deeply connected to place alongside farming the best sites possible.

Lucas Blanck

Wine runs deep in Lucas Blanck’s veins. Born into a family of winegrowers who have worked the vineyards of Alsace for centuries, Lucas was raised among the vines at the family estate, Domaine Paul Blanck et Fils. From an early age, he was hands-on in the vineyard, developing a deep connection to both farming and machinery.

After completing apprenticeships with renowned Alsace producers including Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and Trimbach, Lucas’s curiosity led him to Australia, where he worked his first Mornington Peninsula vintage in 2010. He later joined Quealy in Balnarring, becoming vineyard manager during a period that saw the estate gain organic certification and establish itself as one of the region’s leading producers.

Today, as co-owner of Kerri Greens with his wife Alyce, Lucas continues to focus on expressive vineyards, honest winemaking, and carrying a family tradition into its next chapter — with the next generation already close behind.
